Why can't woman move up on the hierarchy on the Catholic Church or other Religions?

I don't intend on offending anyone. I am only curious. Doesn't this seem unfair for woman? Would it be wrong to have a woman as a Pope?I don't see why it would be wrong. Why can't there be woman as priests? It just seems like there is some type of discrimination taking place. Tell me why.
