How to fix "USB Device Not Recognized?"?

i have goflex 1tb external drive, running XP pro, XP home, Ubuntu, and Fedora. i have used the drive to backup all of my computers in the past, but today i was using it to move a music file from XP pro computer to the Ubuntu computer. the file was successfully copied to the drive, then i "Safely Remove Hardware" hooked the drive up to the other computer and the drive powered up, but nothing else happened. i unhooked it from that computer and plugged it into the XP home computer and got "USB Device Not Recognized" unhooked it from that computer went to Fedora computer got nothing, went back to XP Pro computer and got "USB Device Not Recognized" again. then came to the seagate website. followed the directions, tried everything suggested except opening it's case. if anyone has an answer that doesn't risk voiding my warranty please help.
