Component cables 480i display?

i have a pioneer dvl-919 cd/dvd/ld player. i hooked it up using component cables, which are suppose to display a better picture. i have a sony kld-46v4100 lcd tv. the display is telling me that the video output is 480sd i. i was wondering is that the best picture for the component cables or would hooking it up using composite cables (red, yellow, and white) be better?
